Candi has written exactly what I would have, so I will merely point you to her review of this book.

She is correct, it often reads like an op-ed for his other history books on the Modern Vietnam war period. He is versed in Modern History, and more modern warfare. This particular topic seems to be more a crutch to promote his work on the modern eras, which is a shame. This topic is fascinating*, as is this period, and both deserve their own treatment and focus.

*I've written a few brief papers on the Trung sisters, but not attempted a deep delve research-wise. I had hoped Mr. Tucker had done this so I could learn more.

Overall, this book is too long winded to effectively convey the narrative the author is pursuing. The author is fixated on the Battle at King's Mountain. It is brought up repeatedly as if to imply it was the single reason independence was finally achieved.
There are many run on sentences and the writer has a tendency to try to link two separate pieces of information through a common person. However, most times this leads to confusion when reading. Also, some statements are either a missed typo or just wrong. Such as in chapter 6, the author writes "...General Clinton, who considered himself a "sly bitch" in tactical terms..." The actual phrase I know of is "shy bitch" referring to Clinton's social awkwardness.
The book does bring forward a lot of known and unknown names. It does a good job of pointing to the many contributions those Irish born and of Irish descent made for our fledgling nation. It can be a bit difficult to read.

Solitude was a young black woman freed from slavery after the French Revolution. But when Napoleon tried to restore slavery on the island of Guadeloupe, while pregnant she joined and fought in the resistance. She was captured and executed the day after she gave birth. That’s basically all that is known, but this author repeats it ad nauseum to fill more than half the book. The second half is a little about the resistance; it lost. The book has immense potential but is sorely wasted. The author’s sources: the bulk are…wait for it…himself and other books he’s written. I’m very glad to learn about the existence of Solitude in our world history, but this is not the book to read if you want to learn anything more than I’ve already shared.… (más)

A book that looks at the battle on June 25, 1876 at the Little Bighorn River, between the 7th Calvary and the Indians who were camping along the Little Bighorn. Phillip Thomas Tucker PhD looks at long forgotten Native American documents from Cheyenne and Sioux warriors who help defended Medicine Coulee Ford and other Native American testimonies that changed the fortune of George Custer and the men he led. Tucker also found some evidence that Custer was shot while leading his troops which may have sped the demise of the 7th Calvary. With the new evidence it is possible that what transpired on Last Stand Hill is not what we have believed for over the last 150 years.… (más)
