rabck from aberpeter; the first 3/4 was a page turner. 19 years ago a famous filmmaker disappeared with his two kids and raises them in a desolate location in New Mexico. Mom was never able to find them. Then after Grandma dies at "the sanctuary", Jimmy who remembers his Mom runs away to "missouri" the place that grandma reveals to him. Dorothea, his sister, without really knowing much about the outside world, and thankfully Stephen, ex-doc turned taxi driver picks her up at the bus station. He helps her find Jimmy, who has been committed to a mental hospital. The rest of the story about the family getting back together and sorting out memories, dreams and fiction seems a bit forced. But like that Dorothea will stay with Stephen, Dad finally getting the health care he needs and Mom happy reconnecting with her now grown kids.… (más)

David and Kyra, overprotective parents of their young son Michael, are devastated when he disappears from their backyard one morning. How does something like this happen when they've done everything they can to protect him from something just like this? As the story unfolds, the past of both parents come back to haunt them.

The bare bones of this story had promise. But the execution, or at least a good one, just wasn't there. This felt very disjointed and almost confusing at times, almost like the author was trying to throw too many things in there at once. The main, present-day story line took place in just one day, but the way the story was constructed made it feel like it was dragged out much longer, even though the book itself wasn't that lengthy. I doubt that this one will stick with me for very long.… (más)
