More space opera in feel than Traveller, and with more humor as well, particularly in the description of the many alien races. Hampered by the incredibly complex combat system (taken from Morrow Project) and limited distribution. Still good as source material.

A very different setting; an ancient civilization built roadways that lead to different worlds, times, and dimensions. A small percentage of a world's populace can enter the pathways; they are 'Fringeworthy', and able to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and...well, you get the idea. No starships, no Prime Directive, but there are hostile (and friendly) aliens; including remnants of the race that destroyed the original builders...

Both somewhat ahead of its time (a role-playing game about a secret government agency tasked with dealing with the supernatural when it impinged on normal citizens) and behind those times (a very clunky system and character creation rules). Novel in the concept that characters could sometimes find (and were encouraged to do so) peaceful resolution to conflicts.
