Thompson has done the Church a tremendous service in showing that Bucer, the Reformation hero of Protestant-Catholic rapprochement, not only made every claim to Patristic eucharistic theology but also integrated it into the Reformed view of the Supper on the Continent. In doing so Thompson also charts Bucer's appointment to Regius Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University as a foundational influence on the reformed catholicism of The Church of England. Exceptional in every way.
