The Carter-Menil Human Rights Foundation

"To mark the Twentieth Anniversary of The Rothko Chapel, The Carter-Menil Human Rights Foundation of The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia and The Rothko Chapel, Houston, Texas coordinated their efforts to present their respective human rights awards in a joint ceremony." The star of the ceremony was Nelson Mandela who had been very recently released from prison. Included are texts of those addressing the gathering, including Nelson Mandela, Texas Governor Ann Richards, Former President Jimmy Carter, as well as a Salute to Nelson Mandela by Dominique de Menil. Featured are numerous photographs of recipients and honored guests. Recipients of the Rothko Chapel Award were CONAVIGUA, Ramón Custodio López and CODEH, Ramiro de Léon Carpio and César Alvarez Guadamuz and Sebastian Suy Perebal, María Mirtala López and CRIPDES, Juan Guillermo Cano Busquets and Ignacio Gómez Gómez. Recipient of The Rothko Chapel Oscar Romero Award was Monseñor Rodolfo Quezada Toruño. Recipient of a Special Rothko Chapel Award was Nelson Mandela.… (más)
