I do believe in the paranormal, and I especially enjoy reading stories about the paranormal in my home state of Michigan. However, the speculative tone of this book didn't mesh well as it went between historical accounts and the authors' own experiences. There's a disconnect.

I've done a fair amount of research on Spiritualism, and this book has a decent (if brief) history of it, and the other historical happenings seem to be good accounts. I'm dubious when it comes to the "lost boy" on Mackinac Island in particular though. I'm very familiar with the Island, and the "Death Trail" (which is possibly actually Manitou Trail) is not one I personally associate with ghostly activity, but is one of my favorites to hike. (And the supposed college student has also been called Harvey in addition to Craig. This is more of a local urban legend as opposed to factual evidence.)

Overall, an okay book, but I'd read with a healthy dose of skepticism. Just because I believe in ghosts doesn't mean that I automatically accept that everything is haunted or supernatural. (And it's made quite clear that the authors wanted you to come to your own conclusions anyhow.)
