Another wonderful addition to the Poetry Builders series, this installment teaches budding poets the basics of sonnet writing. I read this with my cubs, and we tried out the sonnet writing. They enjoyed it. Sonnets are not among my favourite types of poems to write though! There's a glossary at the end, and a for further reading section.

***Many thanks to Netgalley & Norwood House for providing an ecopy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

In my opinion this is a good book. I liked it because the language was age appropriate and students would be able to understand the lesson behind this story. I also feel like the characters were believable. An example of this is the frogs who couldn't get along. There are always students/children who don't get along and they can learn respect by relating to the characters in the story who began to respect and listen to their King. I think the message of this story is to have respect for others.

This is a simple story about a half chick that goes on a soul searching mission. He is asked for help by the 4 different elements. He is only able to stop and help wind. When the governor's cook grabs and puts him in a boiling pot, only wind is willing to come to his rescue. Wind blows the half chicken out and he lands on top of a building at his home farm. This way he always know what wind is up too. This book's theme is to show that helping people when you can is important.

This is a folktale I was not familiar with, so it was interesting to read it. I was hoping for a more vibrant story than what I read. I found the story simple and mundane in comparison to other folktales. However, with this said, it is a good introduction to the world of fairytales. The tone of the story was simple, which is good for young readers.

The illustrations were kind of dark. They had thick heavy black outlines in most of the objects in the pictures. I found this to be contradictory to the vibrant Mexican culture that I am familiar with. The illustrations did have some bright colors, but I found the heavy outlines to be too distracting.
