- Biografía breve
- Shipman Library [Adrian, MI] was named in memory of Dorothy Middlebrook Shipman, a distinguished library director and friend to Adrian College students. Before coming to Adrian College, Dorothy worked as a teacher, head librarian, and assistant librarian at Manistique High School. In recognition of the work and time she contributed to the high school, they awarded her the Native Daughter Award in 1968.
Throughout her career at Adrian College, Dorothy worked as both the head librarian and house- mother for one of the many residential halls on Adrian.s campus. What the students and faculty remember most about Dorothy was the fact that she loved to travel. Some of the places she visited were Mexico, Spain, Austria, Africa, Russia, Europe, and even Haiti. She wrote articles on two of her trips that won her prizes in a magazine contest, and it was with this money that she funded her future travels.
Even though most of her life.s work involved working as a librarian, Dorothy also enjoyed membership in the Presbyterian Church, the DAR, American Library Association, Schoolcraft County Historical Society, and the Order of the Eastern Star. (source: http://www.adrian.edu/150/What%27s%20...)
