Biografía breve
Throughout her life, Wendy has worked with children and books. She has been office manager of a literacy organization, a juvenile justice attorney, a Court-Appointed Special Advocate, a tutor in elementary schools and a juvenile facility, an early literacy volunteer with the public library. Of all the jobs, though, Wendy loves being a mother and author the best, always relishing that moment when a child finds that "perfect book" and can't wait to find out what happens next.

Wendy lives in suburban Washington, D.C., and is the recipient of a Work-in-Progress Grant from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. [adapted from The Great Wall of Lucy Wu (2011)]

I really like that this book is in the form of a commonly known song "the wheels on the bus go round and round" however the adaptation is bringing attention to different aspects of Chinese culture such as food, Chinese families, and dining etiquette. there is a glossary in the back that gives more information in all of these areas and it is presented in a fun, concise, and educational way. I would use this book in my classroom!

An Asian family gathering for dinner at a round table and eating together, eating each course together. Words describing what different family members are referred to as and what they are currently eating. Along with additional information on writhing, food, names, and etiquette in their culture.

Good for younger kids. 1st-2nd?

I love baseball and this book is a testament to the limitless metaphorical value of baseball. So, of course, I loved it. The thing about this book is that the themes and plot points are all well-tread territory (sibling death, love of sports, characters who aren't what they seem to be) but this book never feels trite. I shed genuine tears at the end and then started to get really excited for spring.

Less topical than the first, but a solid entry with feels of the classic Saves the Day and Changes for books. Corinne's family dynamics are changing, will the people in her life still love her the same? The answer is yes, but book does a good job showing a 10-11 year old processing what that might mean.

I also learned about Colorado's state songs and banana boats for camping- love that this has both a recipe and a craft in the back!
