I was browsing on NetGalley, and Book 4 of the series was available. I prefer to begin reading a series with Book 1, and looked up the 1st title for my Kindle. The tabby on the cover with green eyes, white chin, and chest looks like our cat, so it became an instant purchase.

Jamie adopted Scottie and Tanzy from the Langston Falls SPCA. Jamie loves the felines dearly, but his girlfriend is not a cat lover. But then again, Lisa isn’t in love with Jamie either. She’s pretending to love Jamie and pretending that Bruce is her brother. Lisa wants Jamie’s bank account and is putting plans in place to become Jamie’s sole beneficiary to make that possible. As Scottie is home to hear Lisa and Bruce talking about their plans, Scottie is frantic about how to communicate to Jamie that he’s in mortal danger.

I loved Scottie and Tanzy, and another feline that adds to the mix later in the story, but as the cozy continues, the conversations are very repetitive. The book description suggests "suspense book" and a "thrilling page-turner." I disagree. I finished the book because it’s a quick read, but I will not continue reading the series.… (más)

Some interesting facts about cats: I especially liked the information about jumping and why cats land on their feet; but, it was repetitive in places and did not have enough detail. For example, there was a very interesting study released in 2010 about how cats drink (see http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/12/science/12cats.html.)

Perhaps this book was intended for a young audience. I think it would be a good book for a child to read when getting a first cat or kitten.… (más)

This chapter books shares the story of a mischievous black kitten named Shadow. Shadow keeps getting in trouble with Nathan's parents Justen and Sara. They threaten to send him back to the SPCA after Christmas. Fortunately the magical tree intervenes. The story itself was okay, but I was disappointed in the illustrations. Chapter books don't contain as many illustrations nor the illustration quality of picture books, but this one's would not please children at all. They all look pretty much like public domain .gif files. I love cats -- and I love cats in Christmas trees, but this book simply fails to capture the magic. I received an electronic copy through NetGalley with the expectation of an honest review.… (más)
