It was alright. A little too much indecision for me.

3.5 Stars

Tropes: best friend to more, secret (dating app) identity

Content: very little kissing but lots of noticing

This one was entertaining, but it did take me awhile to get into it.

“I always loved you. I never stopped. I love you so much it breaks me. And then it puts me back together.”

All the stars for this one! Catch a Wave will definitely grab your heart. It’s a tender second chance romcom that had me laughing, cheering, swooning, and even shedding a tear or two. I loved Bodhi & Kalaine aka Bo & Mavs. Their romance was so bittersweet with all the feels. I loved how they found their way back to each other.

Kalaine’s a pro surfer who just suffered a horrific accident. She’s come to her brother’s place on Marbella Island to recover & find peace of mind. Instead, she finds her ex who broke her heart two years ago. Kai neglected to mention he shares his home with his best friend Bodhi.

Neither one ever got over the other and Kalaine never got a real reason why Bodhi left. As they spend more time together, all the old feelings resurface. But when Kalaine heals will they stay together or will Bodhi let her go?

AHHH! This story was so so good! I loved the Hawaiian culture representation, the surfer culture, and the oh so achingly beautiful second chance romance. Savannah Scott captured so many emotions and I fell in love with Bo & Mavs from the very beginning. Their story was so raw and tender and I loved every moment. There’s even a little dog, Shaka who steals the show whenever he’s mentioned, as well as all the familiar faces from the Love Trippin’ series.

This story struck the perfect balance between the need for healing and forgiveness with laugh out loud moments. And the romance! Shoulder kisses anyone? It’s a story that had me glued to my kindle and I can’t wait to savor it all over again.

Highly recommend to closed door romcom fans! It’s a definite favorite. Though part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but it’s more fun if you’ve read the previous books. *Ben!* I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

After reading A Not So Fictional Fall, I was dying to get Rene’s and Heather’s story! Bring on all the hot Frenchmen! Rene is one of those swoony characters who when I read his dialogue, his voice in my head sounded like smooth butter, if that makes sense. He’s all that is charming, self assured, romantic, and thoughtful and I loved him! This second chance, he falls first love story was just perfection, especially for dreary January. It made me so excited for Valentine’s Day even though both characters have an aversion to the holiday.

Heather is a divorced mother with a darling eight year old son Nate who spends her days working hard as the manager of Cataloochee Coffee. She’s kinda given up on having a romantic relationship and doesn’t see herself as attractive or worthy of love. When Rene visits from France, she begins to see herself in a new light, as the handsome Frenchman weaves his way into her heart. But, what happens when he has to go back to France?

I absolutely loved this story! There were so many sweet, tender moments where Rene, who has no trouble flirting, authentically shows Heather how beautiful she really is. I loved the way he helped her at the Coffee house while he’s supposed to be on vacation. His interactions with Nate were darling and I loved Nate teaching Rene new American slang. I loved the funny humor, and those poignant moments that just made me want so badly for these two to find a way to be together.

It’s a heartwarming, sweet, closed door romance, with characters who are a little more mature (in their 30’s) which I loved, with plenty of humor and funny, relatable moments. Savannah Scott’s really got something going with these adorable Frenchmen and I’m hoping she has more hidden away somewhere in her repertoire.

He’s So Not My Valentine can be read as a standalone, but it’s so fun to read Rene’s & Heather’s backstory in A Not So Fictional Fall, and you’ll fall in love with Pierre and Tasha who are featured quite a bit in this book. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author, but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
