Too much information about the intracacies of motor sailing for my taste. A good maritime treasure hunt story. Some other reviews foound fault with the main characters persona, but I didn't find it very much of a distraction.

I read this book weeks ago but have procrastinated over writing a review. On the one hand, Scott's description of all things to do with sailing and as well the south sea locales were interesting and authentic sounding. The plot was also intriguing - up to a point. Where the novel ran into trouble for me was when it came to his characterizations particularly of the female characters. His male protagonist is impulsive, macho, a bit arrogant, and very physical. All good and interesting. but when he first encountered the main female character, who he mistakenly believed was responsible for vandalizing his boat - his response went way beyond what that belief would have justified. I don't want to give any spoilers - but I have to say, Scott has a very poor grasp on how women would behave, particularly after being assaulted. As a result, the resolution was not satisfying - was actually a bit cartoonish - because it hinged on both the author's and the character's shallow understanding of women. It was kind of offensive really. But maybe this was supposed to be a man's man story, and so intended to appeal specifically to that reading audience...… (más)

If you like books about treasure hunting, sailing and diving, you will love this book. The author brings the characters and ocean to life. This story is a thriller building with suspense with each chapter and I couldn't put it down until I finished. I will be reading more Joel Scott novels.
