I'm always game for some southern humor. This was decent for a quick afternoon read. If you're the in between type of southern girl, not quite Old South, not quite New South, you should get a kick out this.

This book gave me both an inferiority & a superiority complex. It also reminds me to stand up straight.

I read this book many, many years ago, but reread it again yesterday. Ohmygosh! Either I or someone I know well is on each of these pages. Yes, I can imagine Lynda Bird Johnson wearing nylon gloves to a New Orleans ball. I remember the stir she created when she wore colored socks to rush at UT-Austin.

There's a fine line between pride and snobbery. If they had a good pair of binoculars and stood on tiptoes, the belles in this book might be able to see it somewhere back there. And I say that as a Southern girl myself. Read for humor, enjoy the style [well, some of it, anyway: 1980s Texas debs — need I say more?], and be appalled by the 'etiquette.'
