A well written story based on a beautiful song written by Mark Schultz. The author captures the story of a mother, Beth, who refuses to give up hope that she will again see her son, James who has been missing for two years from his infantry battling in the Afghanistan War.
What helps Beth get through each day is her strong belief in God and the letters she writes and sends everyday to James while he is lost in action. She struggles each day down an emotional journey when others tell her she needs to move on.
The story gives the account of what a mother holds on to in the darkest of moments with not knowing if her son or daughter is dead or alive, not knowing is the worst pain for any parent. The story also honors men and women who give their life in service to their country, honors bravery and selflessness, and for that reason alone the story is worth recommending for Americans to read.
This is a powerful story where mother and son send letters back and forth before he goes missing and how she clings on to hope. The author of the book, Travis Thrasher and the songwriter, Mark Schultz’s words and video, “Letters From War” was a wonderful combination created from the heart…..
