An enjoyable little epigram-per-page look at Zen precepts, some from actual Zen teachings, others from sources that are "kindred spirits." For those not versed in Zen, some of it may be puzzling. But there's plenty to stimulate thought here, and a fair amount to amuse.

"Do not seek to follow int the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought."-Basho

A taste of Zen for the seeker and curious alike, here is a compilation of sayyings, parables, haiku, koan, poetry, and other words. From both Eastern and Western sources, their maverick spirit points to a different way of looking at teh world: directly, openly, joyously.

I loved this book; applicable for any stage of life. A little wisdom from a variety of schools of thoughts and religions.

Generally I look for greater nuance and closer examination of topics, though I seem to have read more than one book on meditation which strays from that standard. That said, there are some interesting aphorisms here, and it served as an opportunity to discuss meditation (however briefly) with Mutti.

I particularly liked
● "Listen and look until the you disappears."

● "Spend 30 minutes on a 5-minute walk."
(and the concept of walking meditation, generally)

"Look at something and come up with 7 adjectives, specific and not generic."

● "When in the forest, be mindful of mushrooms."
(translate to urban environment: be aware of birds; generally, my understanding of birding suggests it is a species of walking meditation)
