"This documentary presents the ""show camp"" at Theresienstadt with which the Nazis could deceive the outside world as to what was really happening to the Jews of Europe. Here, thinking this was an ""end camp"" from where they would not be deported further, Jews were promised a comfortable and peaceful life, before being hoodwinked out of their properties and assets by the SS and sent to the death camps in the east. The program is introduced by Simon Wiesenthal. "
From Amazon review of the film.
The interviews with survivors of Theresienstadt together with film footage of both actual conditions, the Propaganda footage, and drawings made by the inmates of the camp during their internment make this valuable and informative. While Theresienstadt was not an extermination camp, overcrowding, starvation and disease led to death and those who survived were usually sent "east" to Auschwitz for extermination.
The camp's 16,800 inmates were liberated on May 8, 1945.
