A fresh collection of personal experiences, essays, and poetry, written by 69 contemporary women of color: African American, Asian American, Chicana, Native American, Cameroonian, South African, and Korean. I found some to be poignant, some inspiring, uplifting, and powerful, yet every piece was brief and targeted. I especially liked that each concluded with a short bio of its author.

The book is segmented into eight sections "with topics that range from the pressures of being the vice-president of a Fortune 500 Company, to escaping the killing fields of Cambodia, to the struggles inside immigration, identity, romance, health, and self-worth." (from the publisher's website).

I ended up reading this book in short bursts, and then thought about and savored each voice and story. This would be a great addition to reading lists for high school and college students.
I received a copy from the editor in exchange for an honest review.
