With the recent popularity of Cheryl Strayed's Wild: From Lost To Found On The Pacific Crest Trail, I thought it was time to re-read another story of hiking this trail that runs from Mexico to Canada. Its an enjoyable story, although I quickly found out why other hikers were sometimes repelled by Cindy -- she could quickly go from needy to bitchy. Of course, hiking 2600 miles is an incredible task, so I'll cut her some slack. For those interested in long hikes, worth the read.

Cindy Ross is a very good author. In Journey on the Crest she was able to put me right on the trail with her. Experience the heat, dust, beautiful vistas and every heavy breath as we climbed steep switchbacked trails.I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Pacific Crest Trail or any long-distance hike.

Short, simple and sweet. This is not a "how to" guide but a literary description of the author's experience with hiking, camping and the great outdoors. The author describes her early days as a teen on the trail and gives firsthand accounts of sharing her love for the outdoors with her husband and young children. Additional information regarding recommended scenic trails, equipment, etc. is listed in the book.
