Garth Rosell, the son of the evangelical evangelist Merv Rosell, tells the story of the emergence of evangelicalism in the 1950's, especially at the hands of Harold Ockenga and Billy Graham. The book is valuable for the insight it gives into the life and letters of Harold Ockenga, but, even there, one hopes for a more nuanced and in depth treatment of his theology. If you are looking for a relatively brief and overtly sympathetic (to a fault) history of the rise of the New Evangelicalism, read this book. If you are looking for more substantial and detatched history, read Joel Carpenter's Revive Us Again and George Marsden's Reforming Fundamentalism.… (más)
