So this is the first book from ‘New Adult’ genre that I have read (I actually didn’t even know that it existed before this book). So let me just say right now that I did not expect to love this book, I had picked this because, despite the weird cover and unusual name, the synopsis caught my eye. This book completely enthralled me in some sort of spell so much so that I couldn’t put it down and finished it in two days! It grabbed a hold of my imagination and spoke to the fan girl in me. Roseland’s writing style is witty and with a little quirk that speaks of today’s modern society. The book is full of pop culture references that made me giggle.

Roseland made her main character, Chloe, completely likable. Chloe a recluse who finds herself feeling closer to the characters in her beloved Dark Riders series than anyone in real life finds herself sucked into the book. Most of the time when I read a book like this the characters acts as if this happens to them everyday and they don’t have the ‘freak-out’ any normal person would have. Chloe on the other hand reacted exactly how I would have reacted.

Overall I highly recommend this book to any daydreaming book lover whose imagination completely runs away with them.

Chloe is a superfan of a sprawling paranormal romance series. When the original author dies before writing the final book another author steps in and ruins everything. Chloe gets sucked into the world of the books and tries to fix things. This book had me giggling and saying "yes!" because it went just as I imagine it would go were I to get sucked into the world of some of the series I read. I'd have strong opinions about what should be, I'd have unexplainable knowledge, and I'd be the biggest busybody ever. Fun stuff. (Provided by publisher)… (más)

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

Vanik is a science fiction story that takes the reader along on an adventure through multiple gates to many different worlds. Olivia is a young human girl who found herself helping a group of three vampire-esque aliens, that shortly thereafter changes to four as she helps assist in the birth of an alien child. Though on unfamiliar ground, Olivia manages not only to communicate with the aliens despite knowing their language, and steps up to the plate when a champion is needed to obtain transportation and supplies.

I thought it was a fun idea, to have a human struggle to understand the aliens. Alas, this was resolved when Olivia received a universal translator, like the ones in Star Trek: Next Generation. But I suppose it was necessary to do this. Still, it would have been interesting to see how Olivia would have managed with continued contact with Vanik or any other aliens.

This story involves gate travel from world to world to world. The author does an excellent job describing the planets for easy visualization. Olivia is a strong female character that prefers to hold her own or do it by herself. There were some occasions where she became the damsel in distress, but I think that helps with the romance factor of the book.

For me, I liked the world descriptions, the strong character and the overall story. The romance was ok for me, but I have no doubt that those who love romance will enjoy this story.

Note: I received a free copy in exchange for honest review and to assist in leading the book of the month discussion on the Genre Specific Review Group.
