Cute one. I was scratching my head at a couple of things at the end, but I'll still be recommending this to the youngsters at the library.

Another fun read from [a:Jorge Aguirre|3033809|Jorge Aguirre|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1427389064p2/3033809.jpg], but for me it didn't quite live up to [b:Giants Beware!|12159923|Giants Beware!|Jorge Aguirre|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1317068387s/12159923.jpg|17130936]. Dragons Beware! introduces an overarching plot, a villain, and references to past events (prior to the events of Giants Beware!), all of which makes it more of a traditional, serial-type comic book and less of a stand-alone story.

But Dragons Beware! is still a valuable addition to any library's graphic novel collection due to its adventurous, somewhat androgynous, red-haired tomboy heroine; her physically handicapped dad; and her un-adventurous, aspiring chef little brother.

Note: I received a digital galley of this book through NetGalley.

Hilarious adventures of the feisty Claudette (warrior), her tiny brother Gaston (chef/wizard?), scrappy dog Valiant and best friend Marie (princess and diplomat).

Something about it (probably the art) reminds me strongly of Asterix, but an Asterix for the modern age, without the racial caricatures -- I would completely believe that this is meant to be set in random medieval village in France.

Funny, lighthearted, completely fantastical, dragon-centered romp.

Somewhat conflicted on this...it's crazy cute and made me giggle, and I love the French fairy tale aspect, and I love that a girl is the brave giant-hunter and her friends were equally heroic. But why-oh-why must the one black character in the entire comic fall into the same "super-duper magical Negro" archetype? I even kinda liked the little historical context-ish nod at the end that he appears to be a Moor (not that kids will likely get that), but even this detail just seemed to be thrown in there. Hmmm...I'm going to continue to think about this....… (más)
