This book is magical! I did not want the epic story of Cintra, Lucky, Ricky, Maria and Francie to end... So sad when it did. It's love, life, loss and learning in the beautiful wilds of Montana. It's history and humanity. I can't explain it, you should read it.

A lot like a John Irving book, only it was missing any truly lovable characters, and the end when it finally happened ( yes this book is slow to get to the point, and annoyingly is not today sequentially but instead there is back and forth in time with regards to events, conversations, and observations), it felt a bit rushed or forced.

Some stories were excellent others I did not like - which is often the case for me when reading short story collections!

Almost eveything about this rubbed me the wrong way - the male character, who tried so hard to hide his really sexist relationship with his wife and his literal stalking of a woman he thinks is much younger. He's basically a slimeball and the woman of his dreams is a manic pixie nutbag. However, there's some enjoyable suspense in their attempt to survive an incredible blizzard in a small shabby cabin in Maine.
