Got about four chapters in and had to quit. The idea is neat, but the characters seem one-dimensional and hackneyed. Might get better, but I'd rather re-read Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" than this. The Percy Jackson series is better than this, which would go straight to DVD if it were a movie.

Chance Ripley can't recall anything about his past, but dreams about women in the act of being murdered. In his dreams he becomes the women, feeling their pain and seeing their killers, but is unable to stop the crimes. The dreams are extremely realistic but, because he’s a patient in a mental institution, his doctor is convinced he’s psychotic – until he names a victim who really was murdered, which gets a member of the FBI involved in the case.

As the episodes continue they leave Chance straddling the line between reality and fantasy, teetering on the edge of total insanity. He knows he has to find out why he’s having these visions and suss out the identity of the three murderers before he truly goes insane, but how is he supposed to escape a mental institution for the criminally insane? In time Chance discovers shocking information that will turn his world upside down.

The author had a very good imagination to come up with a storyline about murderers with psychic abilities and their impact on those with similar abilities. Though I wasn’t a fan of the ending, and thought Chance’s constant flitting about was a little too much, I will still recommend this book for its originality.

Recommended for Adults.

Hold on for a wild ride. Blacklisted moves at breakneck speed, interrupted only by moments of introspection. The story follows the life of young Michael Swanson. From his self-destructive teenage years, through personal tragedy, and a stint of trying to save the world. Blacklisted leaves him battered and bruised, but not broken. Mike is not your typical hero. As life deals him some crushing blows, he turns bitter, succumbing to vengeance, and calling it justice. Embarking on a string of murders, he is eventually arrested. Facing the death penalty, he is rescued by a mysterious group, leading him to a much more terrible fate. As he, and a team of mercenaries band together for an impossible mission, Mike’s endurance, as well as his trust, are stretched to the limit.
Mr. Romyn’s sense of humor shines throughout this book, and Benny was my favorite character. I found myself wanting many more scenes to feature him. Attention to detail was also a strong point. Each weapon was identified and explained, but in a way that wasn’t tiresome. And every redneck in the world (including me) would want to get behind the wheel of Benny’s heavily modified Jeep.
The only negatives I saw were the solutions to impossible problems came a little too easy, and the ending left me wanting a little more.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, easily envisioning it as a big budget action movie, in the vein of the ‘Bourne’ movies.
I look forward to seeing Michael Swanson (and Benny) grace the pages of another novel soon.

The opening scenes of this book hit me as terribly gruesome, but the rest of the book didn't follow that path, which is a good thing for me. I enjoyed this story of a man beyond redemption who yet sides with the angels.
