Josephine DeWitt Rhodehamel

Ina Coolbrith was the daughter of Don Carlos Smith, the brother of Mormon prophet Joseph Smith, and Agnes Moulton Coolbrith, a early convert to the LDS Church.She was named Josephine Donna Smith. Her father died shortly after she was born and her mother moved to St. Louis where she married a non-Mormon printer. Her mother urged her to have nothing to do with the Mormons and after a failed marriage she took the name Ina Coolbrith and egan a litery career.. She moved to California and became the first librarian of the Oakland, CA library. Later her home became a cente of literary activit in the Bay Area and she was a patron of many early Caifornia autors such as Bret Harte ad Jack London.… (más)
