Traci Rhoades

I enjoyed reading this memoir by a Christian writer who describes her various church experiences on her faith journey. Her tone is honest and respectful, without whining or complaining, no bad-mouthing criticisms. As her short bio explains, she has attended nine churches: five different denominations in six different locales. The change of churches starts out due to her moving and looking for a new church in her new city. Then, due to her inquisitiveness, she explores new and different denominations all with the same goal: community, serving God, and growing her personal relationship with Jesus.

In addition to Traci's observations of assorted churches and her own spiritual growth, she includes several first-person accounts from Christians of various denominations. This feature enables the reader to get a broader picture of a range of worship styles, traditions, and personal experiences. My only complaint was that it was confusing to tell when the first-person account ended and Traci's narrative resumed since it was all written in the first person. This could be solved with some graphic design choices.

I didn't know the author has a popular blog. I discovered this book when it was referred to readers in another book I was reading. And at the conclusion of this book Traci lists a few books and authors that I want to explore. It's nice when my circle of Christian writers grows.… (más)
