29 months - there's a lot more to this than one would expect for a board book. We have quite enjoyed reading this during halloween season.

Little Kid Reaction: My children had a mild reaction to the book, but were engaged by it and wanted to read it again. My 2 year old was asking about the characters (not the subject matter), and my 4 year old enjoyed trying to figure out which plant was the oldest based on its size.

Big Kid Reaction: I like the book and love the way the TV show presents scientific principles and concepts at the level of a preschooler. I also love the way the show encourages open-mindedness, thinking outside of the box, investigation, question-asking. The story introduces very simple science concepts, and one science word, "transformation" (when something changes into something else), but I did not see a clear connection to the concept of growing.

This board book isn't a story per se but rather a collection of poems. However, the poems do move along a continuum so they could be read all together as a story, although they could also be read separately. The book is designed with pictured tabs at the end, so even a young child's fingers could easily turn pages right to a favorite spread. This story lacks the usual delight of Curious George (he manages to stay out of trouble in this one), but it is still a sweet story about George getting ready for Halloween, including picking and carving a pumpkin and finding a costume, before giving out treats and attending a costume party. I picked this book out for my nephew because he likes Curious George (as do I!) but also because I prefer Halloween books for kids that talk about the things they do on Halloween (like carving a pumpkin and going trick-or-treating) versus those that talk about ghosts and whatnot.… (más)
