I teach computing to seniors and my clients often ask about available books. At the moment all I can recommend are books like "dummies' and "idiots' guide" which I find embarrassing and demeaning.

This book looks as though it covers the basics, and more, without going into so much detail that it is confusing. I particularly like the section on filing on P.61 which shows the "tree" in a non-threatening way.
