This certainly grabs your attention at the start. Alien worlds, space travel, unforgettable characters, and almost insurmountable odds. This is sci-fi in every sense of the word, and Pett has a style reminiscent of most literary fiction. I really enjoyed the descriptions, and the suspense of watching as the characters tried to navigate everything thrown at them. A great read for space sci-fi lovers.

The only thing wrong with this story is that it isn't clear that the characters aren't human. It makes it a little puzzling for a reader to really get them clear in their imagination. Once you have that, you understand the odd references to certain activities and dining experiences. Think Moley and Ratty in Wind in the Willows, and you have a series of characters living a life of comfort when problems intrude and mysteries need to be solved. The twists and turns need some attention to keep up since time is involved, but it's an enjoyable tale and our main characters are gentlemen through and through.
As the author, I'm biased, but my readers have given me this feedback, and thank you to those have been even kinder with your reviews.

The second book of the Princelings trilogy benefits from the author's experience, giving readers a more flowing tale and plenty of excitement. After the all-action prologue we spend a little time re-establishing the main characters and the problem to be solved, and then the adventure takes off, with abductions, storms, rogues, heroes and heroines. Even a ghost!
Not only is a nice story in itself, but it takes us on into the third of the trilogy, leaving threads unravelled and a desire for ulitmate happy endings.
I wrote the book so I may be biased, but my Amazon reviews include "one of the strongest female characters I've seen in young-adult fantasy fiction, and I'd recommend the book on the strength of her character alone."

The third book in the Princelings series shows a lot of character and story-telling development. I love the central role played by Princess Kira, and the comedy of Fred's gradual realisation that he has been duped. My favourite chapter was in the middle where everyone passes through the Inn of the Seventh Happiness in the same twenty-four hours, confusing the barkeeper and allowing bits of the plot to cross from one party to another.

George's gradual recovery from his head injury means his speech is sometimes difficult to understand, but it is lovely the way the flying machine, and his excitement over it, stimulates his recovery.

The totalitarian society they find in the middle of the forest has some fairly nasty practices, but I don't think it is anything a twelve year old would find too shocking. Maybe ten and under might need some parental guidance. It depends on the child.

It's my favourite of the books so far, but then, I am the author.
