This is a touching picture book about a boy struggling to be seen for who he is. It treats the transgender journey, and the coming-out process, with big-hearted respect for all its complexities. Penelope is a boy who doesn't feel seen, heard, or felt, so he acts out in ways that demand attention from those around him. But once his mother starts to see him for who he is, he begins to find his way in the world: a ninja, a mohawk-haver, a person connected to cultures around the world, and a boy named Penelope. A sensitive, affirming look at how a supportive environment can help transgender children blossom socially and grow up healthy and happy. I was already familiar with this family's story, and it's wonderful to see it told so well for children.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crown Books for providing me with a free digital galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful story about navigating the world as a parent- lots of adjusting and adapting required once you start to know the person that you've brought into this world or are responsible for raising. I hope that this story is helpful for someone in a similar situation.
