Volume III covers texts from the 4th to the 15 centuries. They are still relevant in 2018 for an understanding of orthodox Christianity and the spiritual life more generally. It is also imbued with a practical sense about human nature. Dare one say theology with a psychological aspect?

As the back of the book says, the Philokalia is the most important book other than the Bible for Orthodox Christians, and it is truly amazing. The glossary at the back of this book helps a lot, and contains explanations of many very important Orthodox beliefs and terms. The only complaint I have is that I wish the translators and editors would have included St. Nikodimos' comments on the various writings he compiled within this English edition. A compendium of Orthodox writing. This is volume four of a four volume series. The Orthodox combine spirituality with theology, and you can see that very clearly in the writings here. The translations are not always the best, but there is something on almost every page for the person who wants to take their faith seriously.
