Indominitable is, at its heart, a story about the friction between a mother and a daughter and how that can mess up your whole world, whether or not there are homicidal evil gods and other paranormal creatures lurking in your universe. The friction between Adri and Sera feels genuine, some of the foolish mistakes Sera makes because she doesn't want to admit her mother is right are understandable, and their bond (even though sometimes they want to throttle one another) feels real.

If I had any criticism about this book, it was that the characters tended to THINK about their friction a little too much when some ACTION might have conveyed the point better.

I enjoyed many of the peripheral characters in the book. Rafe was okay, but Des? Des... DESSSSS.... [*okay ... you get the point*]

This is the first book I've read by these two authors even though it is the second book in this series. Although at times I was aware there was additional backstory being hinted at of which I was not privy (kind of like interjecting yourself into a conversation), at no time did I feel lost or frustrated.

4.5 Stars!!!

Horror delivered just the way I like it ... in small bites.

I will preface this review by stating I am not a fan of horror. While everybody else gushes about authors whose names rhyme with 'ring' or hobknobs about the latest horror flick, I cringe and sing a happy little tune in my own mind. This anthology, however, gifted to me by a friend, was different. Each story has an unusual, non-gory twist that is quite different from the usual slasher-grade fare that passes as horror these days. Each protagonist makes a series of choices, and what happens to them (good or bad) has a logical thought-process based upon those choices. Although there is murder, mayhem and madness, it is delivered with just enough gore to make it horror, but not so gruesome as to make it horrible. The short stories are just the right length to read during those car-trips to shuttle kids around to activities and then wait. There were some stories in this anthology I would rate a 5, others perhaps only a 3 (although I am a tough reviewer and enjoyed them all), so I am rounding out the entire collection as a 4-star review.… (más)
