A sad but interesting story. Good for those interested in Upstate New york history or true crime

The only way to describe the writing in this book is 'pedantic'. While the author covers many hardboiled mystery authors, most of the prose were dense and I got little meaning out of them.

Additionally, the photos of old paperback book covers were of very poor quality...almost illegible.

Use tis book for the list of paperback books in the back and for its bibliography of relevant books on the subject.

Really an extraordinary book that appears at first to be a series of discrete essays about the 60s but is much more of a memoir though not in the traditional sense. Amazing writing that somehow captures the period in an effortless and really imaginative way.

Not overly exciting. The prose are dull. The book covers are fair to middling. Nothing to write home about. I'd skip it...I did skip most of the verbiage.
