The greatest person who ever lived wants to spend time with you!
There is no one like Jesus in all of history. He touched hearts and changed lives everywhere he went in his 33 years on earth. Each person who spent time with him was never the same :)

A Year with Jesus is just the book needed for new and older Christians alike. After teaching the true meaning of theology to our teens and exploring that it in fact means the study of who God is and His personality - this book is easy to recommend. How better to get to know Jesus(God the Son) than by reading and studying His own words each day. If studied with an open heart that is seeking a deeper and more intimate knowledge of Jesus this book will open the door for solid foundational theology.

Each day is devoted to a teaching or saying of Jesus. This allows the reader to get to know the real Jesus to explore the character and nature of a Great and Awesome God and discover firsthand the personal love Jesus showed as he walked in human form on this earth.

This is an excellent book to start out your morning with or end a hectic day with. I would recommend it to any one.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson for this free review copy.

This is not just another daily devotional book. This is a magistral book that bring us intense meditation through the insights of the author on a variety of themes that we usually do not stop to think about.
The fact that this devotional is not ordered by calendar days makes it easier for you to start at any point in the year and just follow your own sequence, as your heart guides you.
One particular topic touch me deeply: "Jumping Frogs of Egypt". The author discuss how tyrants are not quick to keep their promises. So, if we start thinking about that, we see that nowadays we have exactly the same problem the jews had three thousand years ago. Our leaders also are too quick to forget about their promises they made before election... And the book proceeds, bringing us topics to think about in all areas. Wonderful reading and a nice acquisition to any permanent library of a serious christian person.

This book was written by R.P.Nettelhorst in 2010 and published by Thomas Nelson and they were kind enough to send me a copy for reviewing through their Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers Program.

I really liked the idea of this book. A devotional that gives you something to think about everyday. Then on top of that having the different categories for the scriptures so that you could read scripture that was relevant to what you were dealing with – Joy, Happiness, Sadness, Fear, Isolation, etc. It was well organized. And I liked that there were stories that accompanied the scriptures. It helped me relate the scripture to something I could understand. A more “concrete” understanding of what the scripture was talking about.

Having said that there were a few things about this book that I would have liked to see done a bit differently. Being new in my relationship with The Bible I want a fuller understanding of the entire Bible. This book only deals with scripture from the Old Testament. But being that there is a second book in this series that deals with Jesus I guess it is understandable. Given how this book was set up I think with both books I would be able to get the fuller understanding that comes from both Testaments.

While the stories in the book did help give meaning to the scripture they weren’t “captivating”. Well most of them weren’t. There were a few stories that I connected with, but for the most part I just didn’t love the stories. It was a good book and I liked the idea of it. There were just a few things that really kept this from being what I would call an great book.
