Contribution of Non-Western Culture:

In Deborah Nash's "Riddle of the Nile" baby crocodile longs to be king of the Nile. In order to do this he must set out to solve the riddle of the Nile. This book is a great way to introduce the Ancient Egyptians and how they influenced science today. This book is about a paper butterfly who gets lost and needs find his way home. The paper butterfly meets with a dragon who asked, "What was made in China 2,000 years ago and is still in use today?"

Paper, of course.

The paper butterfly goes all around China, passing great landmarks like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. Finally, he finds another paper butterfly who answers the riddle.

This books contains all sorts of things that add to your appreciation of China: paper cut illustration, a map of China, and instructions on making paper butterflies.

I recommend this book to kids who want to learn about China.
