A competent if formulaic look at incest. Eighteen-year-old Carla, the narrator, reveals her abuse, her escape fantasies, her self-hatred, her secret-keeping skills, her confusion as she reviews her life under the control of her perverted, monstrous father. It does not end happily. I think I read this because I was working on a play about a similar subject at the Perry St. Theater.
