It’s a sad state that during the 1950’s and 1960’s that the bible-loving southerners couldn’t follow God’s own words that everyone’s been made in his image to the fullest extend it had been meant to be. But, then this had been what the societal norms dictated with its authoritarian, restrictive, and more degrading Jim Crow laws for individuals possessing a different skin color. And just like the gays and lesbians of the same period any love relationships of two individuals between different races might care to have for each got, unfortunately got forced into closets, backrooms, and any other secretive places which might exist.
This is precisely what the two protagonists in this story, Judith Bracewell and Ezra Washington had been force to endure, until a tragedy brings their relationship to an end. It’s an unfortunate state of affairs that while Judith struggles to safeguard all those she dearly loves from the society’s tribulations, that in truth they’re unfortunately have been responsible for the demise of her life’s greatest love interest.
Having been an A+ student in history back in my high school days, I’d loved how the author, Craig Moody had artfully woven the historical aspects of the period into the storyline. The storyline itself is fraught with emotions, the level of which came as somewhat of a surprise since it has been written by a guy.
For having given his readers a novel which details a regrettable period of our history with well-defined fictional characters I’m giving Mr. Moody 5 STARS for his endeavor here.
