Lots of interesting characters, I figured out the "serial" killer but not the cause of the skeleton.

Eh, not the worst book I've read, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped I would. You'd think that a book about a mystery book club that a librarian joins would have my name all over it, right? I thought the plot was a little drawn out, and alternating chapters from two different points of view made the story a bit disjointed.

This was an enjoyable book. The ambience and the characters were very strong. Whodunit seemed obvious to me but I was sorry that it had to be that way.

Really great read! Leaves the reader wanting more about the unique characters. The plot of this book keeps you guessing until the very satisyfing end.

The writing has improved since the first book (which it the only other I've read of this series at this time), but the mystery was... lacking. There were some nice elements in the structure of the narrative that can be tough to pull off. I'd only recommend to hard core Agatha Christie fans as this particular book is basically an homage to Dame Agatha. The only readers who wouldn't guess the outcome is anyone who has never read a mystery or seen a police drama on TV in the past 20 years.

This is in my Bibliomystery collection, but if it wasn't part of this series, I likely wouldn't include it. I do include it because it is the last (to date) book in a the recurring series characters are part of a reading book club, and that events take place in the neighborhood of the bookstore they meet in. Again, the main character, who is allegedly a reference librarian, is only at her library for a paragraph, and that is nearly the only reference to her working in a library. She may as well be a chimney sweep or any other occupation.

A fast read and an interesting story - but I was much more interested in the characters from the past than the main characters of the story.

Librarian Megan Clark is a qualified anthropologist who is a member of a book club who enjoy crime novels. She's been around when several other murders have happened and has got on the nerves of the investigating officers. This time there's a lot of red herrings and a very old murder that seems to have a lot of secrets entwined, and are the new murders and the old murders linked in any way other than being discovered at the same time.
Interesting but not an author I'd go hunting up more books by, if I happened on them I'd read them but I wouldn't make much of an effort for them.½

Title: Mummy #50
Author: D.R. Meredith
ISBN: 978-1-938632-00-6
Copyright: 2013
Genre: Short Story, Mystery

Originally Published in a shorter version by: Ballentine Books in 1990

This mystery takes place in a museum located in the Texas Panhandle. The director of the museum has a personality and priorities in direct conflict with that of his assistant. Tensions build between them. Enter the disputed Egyptian exhibit and Mummy #50. Readers will enjoy this short mystery tale with an O.Henry type twist, so aptly penned by this author. I absolutely enjoyed Meredith’s short story and highly recommend it to those who enjoy a bit of irony.

This review is from the Kindle edition, and it deserves 5 stars.

Maybe the best review is to use the author's own words: "I don't know how many times I've read that an author has written a masterpiece, when he's really just written a mediocre story."
