This is a real curiosity. A panegyric written just a year after Gladstones death. Its a narrative story with the author always at pains to paint Gladstone in the best possible light, even making excuses for some questionable decisions that were made. What does come across powerfully is Gladstone's tremendous energy and enthusiasm for public life as well as his oratorical prowess. Fascinating. The author apologises for not finishing the book the final chapter is written by someone else.
