This book has, in my eyes at least, the rare accomplishment of being at least twice as good as the first book. The first book was outstanding. The character development is deeper than I’m used to with most fantasy novels and the book does not shy away from some very difficult topics. It’s also is completely consuming, I read this book cover to cover over two days. I place this series up there with my favourites from Mark Lawrence and Joel Abercrombie .
Peaky blinders meets gritty fantasy. My best read of the year so far.
This series in general has been a joy to read. Midway through this installment, I had to put the book down and only pick it up to read it in short increments. I did this because I really, really, did not want it to end and slot me back into a waiting pattern for the next book to appear. If you have enjoyed the series thus far, this book will not fail to disappoint. It's a shame I can only rate it 5 stars.

Yea, I know, many people in a situation like this would act this way but if I wanted to read about the dregs of humanity I wouldn't read fiction.
I don't need a mary sue. Flawed characters are interesting. But there has to be something that makes them stand out, something remarkable that makes them worth writing about above others. This is just not the case with the mc in this one at least up to 50% where I decided to dnf.
I expect angels will get involved to provide a quite literal redemption to this mc but I am just not interested. I quite frankly would've liked to see him die in agony instead.… (más)
