This copy is from 1913, and throughout the cookbook there are many references to the 'old South' through the eyes of the author's mammy, and what the author saw while helping out in the kitchen. A really nice read for those interested in what a kitchen was like when it was separated from the main house, and how a traditional Southern house was ran.

Only 2 books pub by her. Also authored Dishes & Beverages of the Old South, see entry. Was good friend of Dorothy Dix. b. 1848 d. 1934 at age of 86.

A WONDERFUL old book. I don't even know where to begin. I feel stunningly lucky to own it. I believe there are facsimiles of it. She never over-cooks anything. Vegetables, for instance, she loves to cook in paper bags in the oven. Sometime I'll write a real review of this book. You could save me some time by just buying it.
