Quite sturdy for a pop-up book; we got ours secondhand and all the pop-ups work, except the cricket but somehow it still makes noises, so partially works. Absolutely a perfect concept for this medium, because it talks about simple but fascinating animal behaviours which *you can then see in action*! The male blue-footed booby does a dance to show off his feet while his mate spreads her wings in appreciation. The baby owl fluffs out its wings and opens its round yellow eyes to startling effect. The fireflies blink repeatedly and puffins clack their beaks at each other. One of the best pop-up books I've ever seen.½

This book tells about different animals and how and where they hide. It gives information on a large variety of animals and also explains the reason for why that animal hides. I like this book because it can show students characteristics of different types of animals and how they keep safe. I also like how in the back of the book there is a little section with more information about animals and their hiding places. In my classroom, I would be able to ask students to show patterns of why animals hide. We could categorize the animals in this book on many different things such as why they hide, where they hide, etc and then add to that list using research. This is a way we could categorize or compare/contrast different animals.½

Large, clear photographs illustrate a variety of animals, such as koala, fruit bat, walkingstick, snail, and howler monkey, that seek safety, food, and shelter in trees. Reading level - 9 yrs+, a good read-aloud for younger children.

This great pop-up book highlights the unusual and interesting behavior by various animals (gorillas, elephants, blue-footed boobies, foxes, porcupines, frogs, moths, pink cockatoo, peacocks, etc.) and brings them vividly to life. Animal lovers will find much to enjoy in the intricate pop-up scenes, and may just learn a thing or two along the way. My favorite pop-up has to be the frilled lizard, (so realistic!) but the blue footed boobies and the Siamese fighting fish are exceptional as well.

Beautiful photographs accompany short descriptions of what different animals do in the summer. The back includes a few pages of more in-depth explanations, as well as a few ideas for studying and observing animals in summer with children. This book is great as an independent read for kids or as an introduction to be extended upon later.
