Whenever we talk about surviving abuse or trauma, we must include our perseverance ability. One of the important things I've learned from my journey to be a good Christian woman is that the Lord wants us, His children, to persevere regardless of what might be confronting us. In wanting to accomplish this goal and experience triumph in His being, the Lord desires for us to acquire knowledge in surmounting the adversities, barriers, trials, and tribulations that have been faced in front of us.

With us being Christians, I've learned that we possess two possibilities in this matter. We can either forsake any hope we might possess or relinquish the possibility of getting out of the abyss we find ourselves in, or we can place our faith in the Lord and look towards Him to resolve our problematic situation[s].

As Christians, we should know by now that the Lord has definite plans we each of us, plans in which our life confrontations are transformed into remunerations and blessings when and only if we're willing to persevere in our endeavors. And, as is usually the case, the Bible's Scriptures are there to arouse our faith in the Lord and stimulate our perseverance in everything we're endeavoring to do. For let us remember what is written in PSALM 46:1 [NLT]:

"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."

As long as we persevere, we've been promised the following in GALATIANS 6:9 [NLT]:

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

There is a lot of patience involved here, regarding which ISAIAH 40:31 [NKJV ] tells us the following:

"But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

One thing regarding our perseverance that we might not realize is that the Lord knows about it; and you have any doubts, turn to REVELATION 2:19 [NIV], where you will find the following:

"I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first."

The reason we as Christians will continue to persevere is rooted in our knowing and believing in what we find written in 2 TIMOTHY 4:18 [NLT]:

"Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen."

What Ms. Mattison has done in this book has been to give her readers a foundation where they can rekindle their relationship with the Lord through the power of praying. She wants them to get out of the abyss they've been stuck in regarding their past and start looking toward their rebirth with the Lord at their sides.

For each area of an individual's life she covers, Ms. Mattison offers an appropriate Scripture, followed by a specific prayer needing to be read aligned with the topic at hand. There's a lot of power as one prays to the Lord, and Ms. Mattison wants her readers to possess that power in their lives.

For wanting to transform the lives of the readers of her book, I've given Ms. Mattison 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

There isn’t a Christian who has any sort of relationship with the Lord hasn’t waited for Him to do something in their lives. The something could be simple has given them a sign as to what career they are should enter as a job, or complex as helping them restore a loving relationship that has turned sour.

Everyone waiting for the Lord to do something in their lives, needs to remember they must possess having patience, as we read in JAMES 5:10 [NKJV]:

“My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.”

And looking at possessing patience regarding their waiting, perhaps Christians need to begin changing the way they’re waiting for Him to do what they desire to have in their lives. What the author of this book, Leonie H. Mattison, has done in the devotional pages of her book is have her readers change the manner in which they’re waiting for the Lord. Ms. Mattison suggests that the change should be from simply waiting ON THE LORD to take action in fulfilling their desires, to them WAITING IN HIM for the same end results.

I believe to begin to understand this changeover, perhaps we need to read PSALM 130:5 [NKJV] which tells us:

“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.”

And in regards to His word, we need to remember what both 2 SAMUEL 22:31 and PSALM 18:30 [NJKV] tells us about it:

“As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”

This is why I believe the author has compiled this devotional book, she desires her readers to find themselves connected to the Lord and His words in new ways, ways that they’ve never been before. Ways in which they might find themselves becoming the words of the song “In the Garden:”

“…And he walks with me and he talks with me
And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known…”

For wanting to transform the manner in which her readers are waiting for the Lord, I’ve given Ms. Mattison the 5 STARS she’s earned from this voracious reviewer of nonfiction Christian books.
