Interesting account of Sir George Martin's work with the Beatles. I got this for my mother who is a lifelong Beatles fan. A must-read for any fan!

Beatles producer George Martin walks us through the making of the most iconic album in Rock history, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

It was a battle to make the Beatles' vision into a true album, a "theme" album - although that theme was largely lost as the recording went on.

Martin goes through the album track by track, explaining the song, idea and the Beatles themselves in each song.

Well worth it.

The great Sir George Martin! An absolute must read for the Beatle fan, the songwriter, the recording musician, the sound engineer, the astronaut, or the building superintendent. Or the horse whisperer.

If you’re looking for a gossip book about Sir George Martin and The Beatles, this isn’t your book. But if you’re looking for a book that explains what Sir George has done in the studio and the inner workings of EMI in the 1950s and 1960s, this is for you. A couple of chapters are geared toward the more technically inclined as Martin gives detailed explanations of the mathematics of musical HZ and how early tape recording worked. Written in 1979, Martin’s last chapter is prophetic about the changes digital would bring to the recording industry.

George Martin, Wings and Bond, March 20, 2003

(REAL NAME)
With "Live and Let Die" John Barry was not to be part of the musical arrangements for a Bond epic for the first time in the history of the series. Part of the rationale was to create a new sound for a new Bond: Roger Moore. Paul and Linda McCartney with Wings were signed to do the title vocal, which was to be a classic, and the former Beatles' arranger George Martin was to do the score. Martin's music proved to be serviceable but was something of a disappointment to fans used to Barry; of course, the film was also a bit of a disappointment, and so was Moore. But it all worked fairly well. The good news is that the new "Remastered" recording from Capital/EMI/MGM includes almost the entire soundtrack. It is well produced with great sound, well packaged, and the price is just right. This is a more than fitting addition to the 40th Anniversay collection, and as a full soundtrack with the fantastic vocal, it is a good deal of fun.

Exciting 70's Music with a brilliant title song!, February 20, 2003
Reviewer: Devin Zydel (New York) - See all my reviews
For the first time ever, the soundtrack for Live And Let Die has been remastered and now includes 8 brand new tracks available for the first time. Live And Let Die boasts one of the best title songs in the entire series. Paul McCartney and The Wings perform the slam-bang exciting title song with thrilling beats and a magnificent flow! The song charted at #2 in the US making it one of the best Bond songs ever. George Martin composes the score this time around with a very laid back lounge type style, which actually works for the film. He made his own version of the James Bond Theme (Track 14), which can also be heard throughout several other tracks. Adventerous music that includes the very high brass includes Snakes Alive, Baron Samedi's Dance Of Death, Sacrifice and Boat Chase. Also included in the Live And Let Die title song version by B.J. Arnau and alternate versions of San Monique. The famous Gunbarrel is also included as a bonus track on the CD. With 22 tracks and 56 minutes of music, a thrilling title song and a smack-down score, Live And Let Die is a classic soundtrack for all 007 fans!
