Interesting story -- plainly a set up for a continuing series. This is a new genre for me --I'm trying to broaden my fiction experience -- so maybe some of my criticisms are due to unfamiliarity with expectations here. My first critique is that sometimes the language seems to be too willfully eccentric. Phrases that seem to have the 'wrong' word. I like surprising wordplay, generally, but there was just a little too much of it. Again, maybe it's my expectation at fault. Another problem, for me, was the way new main characters, groups, monsters, etc. are introduced every few chapters, right up until near the end. This is why I see it as setting the stage for a series, the whole thing seems expository. But it was a good story; I'll be interested to see how it continues.… (más)

For a long while now, I've always been attracted to the idea of reincarnation and indeed believe it. So when I came across Soulless, I just knew I had to read it. From the moment I read the summary, I needed to have it in my collection and hoped for the best.

Ms. Maree is a wonderful author, writing poetically to describe the environment. On top of that, the characters were very well thought out. I loved Nadia for both her weakness and her strengths; caring for her sister and wanting nothing but the best for her, caring for someone who was unstable even when he scared her, and living in a world filled with nothing but hopelessness. Diesel was greatly thought out as well along with both of their character development.

I just this very moment finished Soul Finder after having to first reread Soulless due to brain mushiness...It's a thing...I think...anyhow, I feel that I must go on record saying that this series has unceremoniously and repeatedly accosted my emotions..having all sense of Right and Wrong hijacked, held ransom and awaiting the final verdict found only in book #3 !! Proper words fail me at the moment BUT what I can articulate is Holy Gritty Hell shackled to a Crazy/Hot/Volatilly Codependent Love/Lust/insane romance (?!?)!! sound confusing and garbled? I agree! and I will definitely come back to this for a full (hopefully coherent) review after some time to ruminate. If you are in the market for a dark, disturbing, extremely well written dystopian series (with the same feel as Susan Ee' s Penryn & the End of Days series) then drop whatever it is you are presently doing and pick up book#1 Soulless...after much sleep deprivation you'll thank me for it later!! This story is wayyy more than just a pretty cover. It's a well executed concept that will keep your attention from start to finish.

I found that the world and its various elements were well explained. I never felt lost when it came to certain terms or how the entire reincarnation process worked. While the world is complex, keeping it all straight is easy.

I loved the action in this story! It kept things interesting and the plot moving. I also liked that the romance really takes a backseat to the main plot line. It doesn't distract from Nadia's journey nor does is stop the progression of that journey. It took me a while to warm up to Nadia, but I was definitely rooting for her by the halfway point.

There's a lot of things at play and I can't wait to see how they all come together in the sequel!

If you want to try a non-contemporary New Adult novel, this is a great place to start!
