Animal Kids: Cubs, Chicks and Pups.- Kathryn Knight

A book for a younger class, a good read for pre-school and kindergarten, it teaches what different animal babies are called.

I actually found this to be informative, I knew the different names for baby animals but there were some that I just learned after reading. Goes to show you that the saying is true, “You learn something new everyday”.

1- incubate chicken eggs in class
2- For a younger classroom, assign baby animal names to groups if desks are arranged in clusters and create a musical chairs type of game.… (más)

Summary:
This book is about animal babies and what they are called. It tells the reader the characteristics of animals babies that have certain names, such as pups, cubs, and chicks. There are pictures of animal babies and their mothers.

Personal Reaction: I actually learned why some animal babies are called calves and pups. I never knew why some animal babies were called the same as others.

Classroom Extensions:
This book would be a great book to read before going on a field trip to the zoo. The teacher could also review some of the facts out of the book at the zoo.
This book could also be read when learning how to categorize animals. It can show the children there are many ways to categorize animals.

Summary
This is an informational book about animals and their babies. It tells all of the different names for their babies, as they vary by animal. This book also shows that by animal who is the caregiver, how long they stay with the parents, and what their parent’s jobs are. This book tells whether the babies come from eggs or not. This book also talks about play time and bath time.
Personal Reaction
I think this book is great and very relatable to the age of children that I would really like to work with. I think that although it is an informational book there would be a lot of things that could be done with it in the classroom.

1. Animals and habitats
2. Field trip to the zoo, state fair, petting zoo, or even livestock show.
