I found this book through a recommendation on an endurance running website. I hadn't realized it was a self-published book before I started reading it, but it reads like one. It seems to be a collection of posts from the author's blog organized into chapters, and there's a lot of repetition, references to colors on black and white figures, and no index. Still, it's a good source of information that's more logical than following endless links on a blog, wondering when you've covered the bulk of the relevant information and following rabbit holes to other sites. His bibliography is thorough, his information seems reliable, and his explanations are usually easy to follow. For me, his explanations were a bit too elementary, but for anyone without a medical background, perhaps not. The advice he offers is a strange mix of very basic stuff aimed at people who aren't exercising or eating well and very picky stuff aimed at more competitive, serious athletes looking to optimize training. I suppose that reflects that the book is drawn from the blog and that the blog is aimed at a broad audience, and it means that this book probably has something of interest to most readers who aren't already completely on top of these things, but it also means a lot of it is irrelevant to any given reader. There wasn't much new information here for me, but then I also have read extensively on most of this stuff and have an MD, so I didn't expect much new information.
