This is a gripping political thriller starring Asher, a lawyer-turned-investigator who has been asked to look into a suspicious death and winds up uncovering a world of corruption in provincial politics. The author is a journalist, and this shows in the snappy writing, the cast of memorable characters, and the clear expertise in Alberta politics.

My favourite books to read are books that are unabashedly Canadian. I don't just mean set here -- I mean so steeped in the culture and history and landscape that they could not possibly take place anywhere else. This is one of those books -- an unapologetic Alberta novel -- and it was a joy to read.… (más)
