I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Remembering Majyk" presents a interesting mix of Russian folklore and magic, but ultimately failed to deliver a powerful punch. The writing style is poor- overly descriptive of minor movements characters make, using predictable dialogue, and consistently bland sentence structure. The pacing is also uneven, with dramatic moments and quieter moments occurring at strange intervals.
40% into the book isn't that much different than 15% into the book: still very few answers, only hints at what's really going on, and a lot of flirty back-and-forth.

This is minor, but it also does the cheap have-character-look-into-a-mirror-to-describe-herself-in-great-detail.. Then it goes another step further into predictability and describes "the only possibly interesting things" about Cal being her eyes- which happen to change colors a lot. This is so overdone in books, especially YA titles, and it was a bad sign of where this book was going for me. I just felt like Cal was underdeveloped at best and fell into too many character tropes at worst. The romance was also dull- the relationship and the love interest. I didn't feel any spark between the characters!

If the writing was strengthened (and made less cheesy) and the characters were more fleshed out, this would be a much better book! The plot is there and pretty engaging, but it was difficult to be interested in the plot when everything else felt like sub par fan-fiction.

I don't generally like Snow White. She's too perfect and kind of annoying. I loved this Snow White. Completely naive and sheltered, yes. Willing to risk everything for the people her father loved and believed in, also yes. And so so so much sass. So very yes! I loved her constant bickering with the prince more than anything. They were a fantastic couple.

There were moments that moved me to tears. There were moments that I was cheering. And there were moments where I was chuckling, mostly because of the seven non-dwarf men in her life. They were an amazing group of brothers for someone who had spent most of her life hidden away and devoid of family. The conversations felt like some of the random conversations I've had with my brother, which I can assure you are utter nonsense and oh so much fun.

I also loved that the prince had a mission. He wasn't just there to rescue a beautiful princess. Actually, he wasn't planning to rescue her and didn't even know she was beautiful. And wonderful. He had things to do. And he was doing them. As any good prince should. I also loved how they actually trusted each other, when they weren't bickering, that is. But to be able to say, I know who you are so fully that it doesn't matter what you may have done in the past or what someone else says about you, I know you...it's a beautiful thing. And that was this book. All kinds of wonderful, lovely surprises.

Valia never ceases to surprise me with the stories she tells and the way she tells them. I especially love her fairy tale retellings, which are uniquely beautiful. I edited this book, and I reviewed it because I loved it.

This was a very entertaining box set. Fans of Harry Potter will enjoy this set. The battle against evil will always be fought. She feels a little lost. Her best friends are in hiding. She's losing her magic. The Ancients are at the outer areas of the school. Once you start the first the start the first book, you just don't want to set it down. You are pulled right into to the new school year and all the challenges that come with it. (even the magic). The characters were awesome. The moody wolf shifter. The quiet roommate who knows who she is but respects it. The plot is very engaging. The story would keep a young adult into fantasy stories engaged through the whole series (even us older HP fans). I am going to highly recommend this to all fantasy lovers.… (más)

A quirky easy to read cozy that leaves just enough questions at the end to get me to come back for book 2. The murder plot/investigation was a little thin and I could almost do without it and simply enjoy watching Cassie's journey as she tries to get a handle on her powers.
