This was a great book, a short read but a good one. It’s a prequel to the Detective Lagarde Series, which also is really good. I would have liked to read the prequel prior to the rest of the books only because it gave you a better perspective of Angelina Lagarde. She’s just out of the academy, a new detective who wasn’t going to stop when she thinks a man may have killed all three of his wives. She goes into a lot of digging into the old files and is told not to do so by Detective Slate. He didn’t want the higher-ups to find out what Detective Lagarde was looking into. That didn’t stop her. This is part of the Detective Lagarde Series and very good. It shows a strong woman, Detective Lagarde, and how she can fight crime and bring the criminals to jail. She’s been transferred to the Detroit police department and right aways was ready to hit the roads and make a difference. She teams up with Detective Jerry and tracks down a serial killer who leaves the bodies in subways. What Lagarde didn’t expect was the chief asking her to stop working on the case since he considered it closed. That didn’t sit right with Detective Lagarded so she continues and does find the killer, an unexpected killer. The series has been very interesting with a little thrill and mystery. This was the first book in the Detective Ava Locke series and it’s a good start to a series. The main character is Eva who wakes up in a hospital not exactly sure what was going on since she couldn’t remember what happened. There was a girl Allie there who was trying to help her and stayed by her side in the hospital. Meanwhile, Ava’s detective partner, Oscar, is pissed off that someone did this to Ava and he was going to find out who and why. The story has very well-written characters and some thrill and mystery to it. The ending really leaves you hanging, wanting to know whom these people are trying to kill Oscar and Ava along with a strange tattoo on their bodies and of the other 5 people who have been killed.
