Really interesting book, explicitly inspired by John Keegan’s classic. Focuses on the experience of battle by (colonial and) American soliders in places unfamiliar to them, fighting people who didn’t agree with them on the definition of war and, particularly, the definition of defeat—continuing to fight guerilla engagements after being defeated conventionally. Recommended.
